Engelhart captures place on the rostrum twice in Zandvoort

Zandvoort, 07-17-2016

The title battle in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland remains a close affair. Even halfway through the season, you could sense that there was a real three-way tussle for top spot on the podium in the race by the North Sea coast in the Netherlands. Christian Engelhart won a place on the rostrum twice and so captured 32 important championship points.

The gap was already extremely narrow going into the weekend of racing. One retirement and the lead in the championship could directly change hands – or you could suddenly find yourself lagging well behind the leaders.

However, Christian Engelhart’s experience, together with the power of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and his MRS Racing team, enabled the pilot from Kösching to keep the title race up for grabs. “It was a good weekend for me. My car was very pleasant to drive and so I was also able to add important points to my tally.”

Yet the Circuit Park in Zandvoort near Amsterdam is a genuine challenge for driver and car. The rough asphalt requires well thought-out maneuvers and a race strategy very much based on experience. “If you risk too much here too early, you lose. Nevertheless, you need to attack at the right moment. That’s what makes the track so interesting.”

Christian and his team therefore prepared hard and meticulously for the weekend and were rewarded with two third-place finishes. “We’ll build on that and see if we can step up a further gear after the summer break in the Porsche Carrera Cup. After all, our goal is naturally the title – and we’ll fight even more intensively to achieve it in the second part of the season.”
