FIBA Europe Cup: Brose Bamberg loses against Oradea for the second time
The Romanians from CSM CSU Oradea have not become Brose Bamberg's favorite opponent in the FIBA Europe Cup. Yesterday in the second leg in Romania, the Amiel team was almost without a chance due to a particularly poor defensive performance. After leading 15:9, the game slipped away from the Bambergers, and once the home side had taken the lead, they did not relinquish it.
The only bright spot in Bamberg's game was Christian Sengfelder, who led with a lot of energy in the first minutes and contributed nine points to the 15:9 lead in the sixth minute. Even with the return of Patrick Miller, who had to sit out briefly, to the court, the defensive performance of the Amiel boys did not improve, 32:45 after 13 minutes. At least the guests were able to cut the deficit to 52:57 at halftime thanks to Miller and top scorer Sengfelder.
Sengfelder and Gabriel Chachashvili even managed to equalize the score at 57:57 right after the restart, but Bamberg could not take the lead: In the following, the guests lost the ball and missed three shots - Oradea could pull away to 57:64. Since Bamberg carried out their attacks with a high error rate, the Amiel boys lost the ball a total of 19 times, Oradea was thus literally invited to quick attacks. By the end of the quarter, the Bamberg deficit had increased to 12 points.
Oren Amiel (head coach Brose Bamberg): "We conceded 57 points at halftime, something that doesn't even happen in the G-League. But, we also have to acknowledge that: the hosts did a very strong job. To conclude: I still see the positive as well. It wasn't in the game, but we still have a chance to advance. But for that we have to play better than we did here in any case."
On Saturday, January 28, 2022, Brose Bamberg will have to face ratiopharm Ulm away in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga. Jump against the team coached by ex-Bamberg player Anton Gavel is 8:30 pm.
