German Basketball League: Bamberg Baskets win in Rostock after overtime

Rostock, 03-22-2024

Curious victory for Bamberg Baskets: Woltmann's players initially managed to overturn a 15:32 deficit, were 80:74 in front with 58 seconds remaining and had to go into overtime. However, Bamberg played with more than aplomb at Seawolves Rostock - 16:9 in overtime to secure a 98:91 victory, its 11th win of the season.

Rostock had the worst run in the German league before the game with eleven defeats in a row, but Bamberg was not able to capitalize on that. Bamberg completely underestimated the club from the Hanseatic city in the first nine minutes, resulting in a 15:32 deficit. A three by Justin Gray, who scored a total of 11 points, woke Bamberg up, also thanks to the improved work at the basket by Filip Stanic, who finished with 14 rebounds, to reduce the deficit to 39:48 at half-time. A quick 9:2 at the end of the third quarter cut the deficit further. Bamberg seemed to be on the road to victory with a 12:0 run thanks to Trey Woodbury (14 points), Adrian Nelson (12 points) and Malik Johnson (13 points), but Rostock produced a 0:6 run to equalize in the final second. However, Bamberg showed no more nerves in overtime - two threes by top scorer Zach Copeland and the subsequent bucket from beyond the arc by Malik Johnson to make it 95:86.

Arne Woltmann, Head Coach of Bamberg Baskets, commented: "If we'd been in the arena in the first quarter, we could have done better. We showed a lot of heart and fought hard. We lost one quarter and won all the others, including overtime. In that respect, I'd say we deserved to win."

Bamberg Baskets will host the reigning German Cup winners FC Bayern Munich on Sunday, March 31, 2024. Tip-off is at 3:30 p.m
