HC Erlangen wins award for excellent youth work

Erlangen, 01-16-2020

HC Erlangen has again captured the 2020 Youth Certificate awarded by the LIQUI MOLY German Handball League for the outstanding quality of its work in developing young talents. The German Handball League notified the persons in charge at the first-division club from Franconia about the decision yesterday afternoon. As in the previous season, the HCE is therefore one of a few select clubs to hold this seal of quality.

“We’re delighted that our extensive work has been rewarded for the fourth time in succession. I wish to express my deep thanks to everyone who helped us gain the Youth Certificate. Special thanks go to our booster club run by Dr. Carsten Bissel, Florian Dittmeyer and Harald Kraus, as well as to our loyal partners and sponsors, without whose support we would not have made the steady advances we’ve achieved in the past years,” said Tobias Wannenmacher, Sporting Director at HC Erlangen e.V. He added: “I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all the coaches for their great work and unstinting commitment.” Tobias Wannenmacher singles out in particular the cooperation with the club’s partner school, the Albert Schweizer High School, and its fitness partner Sportland Erlangen.

René Selke, Managing Director of the Professional Section, is likewise delighted that the club has captured the award yet again: “The progress our club has made in recent years is simply magnificent and is now highly respected in the entire metropolitan region. All youth teams play in their highest division, which means we’re able to offer ideal conditions for highly talented youngsters.”

The Youth Certificate was created in 2007 as a seal of quality across all divisions. The clubs voiced their unanimous support for a demanding procedure for awarding it. Since 2008, it has been presented to professional clubs that offer good conditions for young handball players in their centers of excellence. To gain the certificate, they have to provide budding talents with ideal conditions at and in the environment of the club so that they have the opportunity to become top players. Criteria that are examined in the award process include well-developed support and training concepts (“dual career”), as well as the quality of the coaches, team and training. In 2020, the Youth Certificate was presented for the 13th time. It is awarded annually by the Licensing Commission of the German Handball League. The decisions are based on the assessment by the Certification Committee, which comprises Professor Dr. Klaus Cachay (University of Bielefeld), Klaus Langhoff (1980 Olympics champion as a coach) and Frank Bohmann (Managing Director of Handball-Bundesliga GmbH). The objective of the Youth Certificate is to ensure high-quality, continuous further development of talents at professional clubs. The goal is to create an ideal framework for young German players so as to allow them to mature into top-class players at their clubs.
