Krawietz/Mies win the doubles in an ATP Challenger tournament
The duo Krawietz/Mies has won the ATP Challenger tournament in Eckental, Central Franconia.
On the way to overall victory, they defeated Hans Podlipnik-Castillo from Chile and Andrey Martin from Slovakia in the last sixteen and then went on to beat the German pair Härteis/Lemstra in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, they came out on top against Marcelo Demoliner from Brazil and Marcus Daniell from New Zealand by 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 10:8.
The two Germans came up against Jonny O’Mara from Scotland and Hugo Nys from France in the final on the Sunday. Krawietz/Mies decided the match in their favor by the clear margin of 6:1 and 6:4. Kevin Krawietz was likewise able to win the Challenger tournament two years ago, partnered back then by Albano Olivetti from France. This success means he has moved further up the world rankings. He is currently 74th in the doubles and so can expect to participate in the Australian Open in January 2019. The 26-year-old professional from Witzmannsberg did not get past the round of the last 32 in the singles. He narrowly lost out to Matthias Bachinger from Munich by 7:6 (11:9), 4:6 and 6:7 and is now ranked 234th in the world.
