Basketball: BBC Coburg without a chance in Frankfurt
BBC Coburg was beaten 100:80 by FRAPORT SKYLINERS Juniors on the 12th matchday of the ProB South. The club from Coburg failed to match the intensity of the home side from the outset and so trailed for the entire game, which it was not able to make up. The BBC's top scorer was once again shooting guard Gabriel Kuku with 14 points.
Head Coach Patrick Seidel summed up the defeat: "We didn't get off to a good start in the game. I wasn't at all satisfied with our intensity and we conceded far too many baskets through simple situations. Frankfurt caused us problems in offence because they switched everything and we don't have any outstanding one-on-one players in such situations, but are more team-oriented and unfortunately we lacked that today. As a result, we deserved to lose the game because we simply weren't good enough today. Frankfurt was better and they had two outstanding individual players in Bell and Onyejiaka, who we never got under control. That's why we have to work more on our automatisms in training next week and bring a lot more intensity onto the court."
Without centre Olamide Pedersen, Coburg completely missed the start to the encounter and so lost the first quarter by a clear 32:16. In the second period, the BBC gradually got into the game better and was even able to cut Frankfurt's led to nine points at times midway through the second quarter. However, the club from Hesse, in particular its two playmakers Justin Onyejiaka and Trevian Bell, stepped up a gear again after the break and did not give Coburg the slightest chance of a possible comeback. The two scored a combined 61 of Frankfurt's 100 points, inflicting the BBC's heaviest defeat of the season to date after two recent victories.
To round off the calendar year, BBC Coburg travels to Schwenningen next Saturday, 23 December, to face the Black Forest Panthers, who are currently in the last non-relegation place in the table with three wins from twelve games.
