medi bayreuth celebrates 6th straight win

Bayreuth, 10-28-2016

medi bayreuth captured its sixth win in a row, but it could not have been much more exciting! Right down to the final second, Bayreuth and ALBA BERLIN had the chance to claim victory in the first game of the 7th matchday in the German Basketball League in the sold-out Oberfrankenhalle. Both teams had produced 39 top-class, thrilling minutes when the final 60 seconds began counting down.

Engin Atsür had just put the visitors 96:95 in front with a bucket from beyond the arc – the 15th time that the lead had changed hands in the encounter. The Heroes Of Tomorrow struck back through Nate Linhart, who equalized from the foul line with 48 seconds to go. After Peyton Siva missed two chances to give ALBA the lead again, the big moment came for medi’s captain Bastian Doreth with 10 seconds left. After a foul by Atsür, he stepped up to the free-throw line, where he drained both shots to make it 98:96. This 16th time the lead had changed hands was also to be the last, since the subsequently attempt at a three by Engin Atsür seconds before the end missed its mark.

The arena erupted in collective joy: The 3,300 fans ecstatically feted their team, which had truly played out of its skin again the top team ALBA BERLIN for 40 spectacular minutes, in the firm belief that it could capture its sixth successive victory – as it proved to be.

Once again, an all-round team performance was key to medi bayreuth’s win against the club from Germany’s capital. Throughout the whole game, medi was not thrown off its stride, kept together, remained determined, highly alert and strong – and so ultimately triumphed with a narrow, yet deserved 98:96 (46:48) victory.
