Bonn

medi bayreuth loses on the road at Telekom Baskets Bonn

Bonn, 11-19-2017

Both teams did not sound each other out at the start. The first shots dropped and medi snapped up a number of offensive rebounds to move 8:7 ahead. Bonn then went in front after two buckets by Julian Gamble. The club from the Rhineland turned the game around and pulled 15:10 ahead. The Heroes Of Tomorrow started a strong 9:1 run with a three by Wachalski at his former club and led by three shortly before the end of the period.

That lead lasted for just over two minutes in the second quarter, when Ron Curry tied the scores at 25:25 with a bucket from beyond the arc. The game was evenly poised in the next minutes, until Andreas Seiferth finished a fast break with a slam-dunk to make it 33:31. The club from Upper Franconia used that to gain a little breathing space once more. Javon McCrea increased the gap to 47:41 with a tip-in eleven seconds before the break, but Josh Mayo, who was dangerous from outside, cut the deficit in half with a three.

It was again Josh Mayo who scored an important bucket: His next three not only made it all-square, but the playmaker also put his side 50:49 in front with an and one. Bonn stretched its lead with three-pointers and another bucket from DiLeo. The home side then held on to its lead and it was not until the final one-and-a-half minutes of the period that medi struck back. Gabe York reduced the deficit to 64:65, first with a three-point play and then with a bucket from downtown. Julian Gamble, who was completely free at the three-point line, struck back shortly before the final quarter.

In the fourth period, Josh Mayo added another three, but James Robinson followed suit at the other end. The home side resolutely kept its lead to four points until Nate Linhart cut the gap to 79:80 with two successive buckets. The Heroes Of Tomorrow then twice had bad luck in crunch time when good shots by Robinson from outside bounced out of the hoop. Yorman Polas Bartolo scored two free throws with four seconds remaining to make the final score 85:82.
