medi bayreuth runs out clear winners against Ludwigsburg

Bayreuth, 11-26-2016

medi bayreuth’s winning streak continued in the home game against Ludwigsburg. The 87:70 (42:40) victory on the 11th matchday in the German Basketball League in the Oberfrankenhalle, which was again sold-out for the third time in a row with 3,300 spectators, was the tenth straight win for medi bayreuth. As a result, the team of Head Coach Raoul Korner not only held on to third spot in the table, but was also able to chalk up an important win against one of its direct rivals in the battle to qualify for the German cup.

Fired on by the indescribable atmosphere in the Oberfrankenhalle, Bayreuth gave as good as it got in the face of the visitors’ expected high level of intensity. As the game went on, medi bayreuth also posed major problems for the visitors’ defense time and again thanks to resolute team play, with the result that it was able to keep on pulling away and so ultimately chalk up a comfortable and completely deserved victory.

Raoul Korner commented: “As expected, that was a very intense game. On the one hand, there was a team that wanted to maintain its winning run, and on the other a team with one of the league’s toughest defenses and a lot of depth and quality in its squad. It was the fight we had anticipated and a big challenge in terms of intensity. We managed to match Ludwigsburg and it was vital that we didn’t flinch, but instead put up intense resistance. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, but in the second we were able to pull away a little thanks to a few stops and so get into our groove. We got to the foul line more and did a superb job in defense, where we wanted to protect our zone. We didn’t quite succeed in controlling the rebounds, but looked at over the whole 40 minutes, the victory was deserved. I have to pay a big compliment to my team for fighting with so much energy throughout the game.”
