Revenge has been exacted: BBC COBURG defeated Dragons Rhöndorf by the clear margin of 88:66 (45:35) in its return game in the BARMER ProB South 2nd German Basketball League and so also captured the better aggregate in the meetings between the two clubs.
Right from the first period, the visitors from the Rhineland were not able to get a grip on Kevin Franceschi and soon trailed by double digits (28:18 in the 10th minute). Since the home side was also pretty tenacious in defense and, unlike in the encounter between the two clubs earlier in the season, also dominated the rebounding department, the eleventh-placed team never really got back in the game. As a result, Coburg retained a double-digit lead at half-time (45:35).
After the restart, the home side stuttered a little in offense to begin with, but captain Yasin Turan then secured its lead by scoring nine important points. His fellow point guard Chase Adams now also got into his stride better after initial difficulties. Dino Dizdarevic had less luck with his shots, but sought and always found better-positioned wings and teammates. The French player also demonstrated the full breadth of his abilities – buckets from beyond the arc, mid-range shots and explosive drives to the basket – in the second half.
Rhöndorf was finally forced to watch as the BBC pulled away and built a 20-point gap midway through the third period. As a result, the almost 600 spectators in the HUK-COBURG Arena were able to celebrate their side’s fifth win of the season and fourth home victory in a row. Coburg also managed to capture the better aggregate from its two games with the Dragons – a factor that may become important in the further course of the regular season.
