Swiss Indoors: Krawietz/Nedovyesov Win Opening Match!

Kevin Krawietz and his interim partner Aleksandr Nedovyesov from Kazakhstan overcame their first hurdle at the Swiss Indoors on Wednesday, defeating Ivan Dodig from Croatia and Adam Pavlasek from the Czech Republic in doubles with a score of 1:6, 7:6, 13:11. Nedovyesov stepped in for Tim Pütz, who injured his calf last week during the European Open.
Initially, it didn’t look like the new duo would succeed. In the first set, Krawietz and Nedovyesov each lost their serve once and quickly fell behind 1:4. Dodig and Pavlasek won the first set 1:6 after just 22 minutes. The second set was much closer. Krawietz and Nedovyesov fended off four break points. After an hour, the set went into a tiebreak at 6:6. The German-Kazakh duo showed better nerves in the tiebreak and won the set 7:6. The match tiebreak was not for the faint-hearted. Krawietz and Nedovyesov were leading 6:3 but fell behind 7:9 and had to fend off two match points. They then increased the pace and turned the set in their favor to 13:11, which secured the victory for them.
In the quarterfinals, they will now face Wesley Koolhof from the Netherlands and Nikola Mektic from Croatia.
