Tennis: Davis Cup - Krawietz and Pütz book Germany a place in the quarter-finals

Innsbruck, 11-28-2021

Team Germany can hope for a big win in the Davis Cup. Brose-supported tennis pro Kevin Krawietz and his partner Tim Pütz won against the Serbian doubles team Djokovic/ Cacic and the doubles team Marach/Oswald from Austria at the weekend. Germany thus secured victory in Group F.

After Dominik Koepfer gave the DTB team a 1-0 lead against Serbia on Saturday and the world number one Djokovic was able to equalize at 1-1 against Jan-Lennard Struff in succession, the decision had to be made in the final doubles match. In a battle of nerves, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz kept the upper hand after a playing time of two hours and 15 minutes against Novak Djokovic and Nikola Cacic with 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 7:6 (7:5).

As in the coup against Serbia, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz were the guarantors of success against underdog Austria. With a 6:3, 6:4 win over Oliver Marach/ Philipp Oswald, the doubles team made it 2:1 and the group victory perfect in the Innsbruck Olympic Hall.

On Tuesday, Germany will face Great Britain in the quarterfinals. "Two years ago we lost to the British in the quarterfinals, now we want to take revenge," said DTB captain Kohlmann on Sunday evening.
