Tennis: Krawietz advances to the quarter finals of the US Open

New York City, 09-05-2021

Brose-backed tennis player Kevin Krawietz secured a place among the top eight at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. Against the doubles team of Molteni/Gonzalez, two-time French Open winner Krawietz and his Romanian interim partner Horia Tecău managed to reach the next round in two sets with 6:2 and 7:6 (7:5).

With the break already in the first game, Krawietz/Tecău made a perfect start into the match. Although their own service game was not as compelling as in the second round, the German-Romanian doubles team showed their usual composure in fending off a total of eleven break opportunities in the first set. With another break at 5:2, Krawietz/Tecău were able to decide the set in their favor after 43 minutes.

The second set brought no surprises until the score was 3:3 and was then interrupted by an almost hour-long rain break. Even after that, both doubles won their service games, requiring a tiebreak to decide the match. After trailing 1:2, Krawietz/Tecău made consistent use of their chances and converted the first match point.

On Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, the favored Krawietz/Tecău will face the US doubles team Querrey/Johnson for a place in the semifinals. We wish Kevin and Horia the best of luck.
