Tennis: Krawietz/Pütz miss out on doubles title at BMW Open

Munich, 04-23-2023

The German tennis doubles team of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz must continue to wait for their first joint title on the ATP Tour after losing to the Austrian doubles team in the final of the BMW Open.

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz got off to a late start in their season together after Pütz took parental leave, but have nevertheless already reached the semi-finals in Montpellier, Rotterdam and most recently in Monte Carlo. After their semi-final victory over Robin Haase of the Netherlands and Philipp Oswald of Austria with 7:6, 6:2, they were hoping for their first joint title on the ATP Tour in Munich.

But this hope was dashed by the Austrian doubles Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler. "We often had to go over the second serve today, that's when it got uncomfortable for us," said Krawietz. And so the German doubles lost 3:6, 4:6 after one hour and ten minutes of play.

Krawietz thus also missed out on a hat-trick at the Iphitos facility, having triumphed with his Dutch doubles partner Wesley Koolhof in 2021 and with Andreas Mies in 2022. Pütz had won the title at MTTC Iphitos in 2019 with Denmark's Frederik Nielsen.

The next chance to win an ATP Tour title is already waiting at the Madrid Open, which will take place from 26 April to 07 May.
