Kevin Krawietz, who is sponsored by Brose, has won the BMW Open together with his Dutch doubles partner Wesley Koolhof. In a thrilling match in bad weather, the pair produced their strongest performance of the tournament to defeat the Belgian duo Gillé/Vliegen 4:6, 6:4, 10:5.

After a more than two-hour delay due to the weather, the match began with the top seeds Krawietz/Koolhof breaking serve. However, the Belgians countered by breaking back right away and then taking a 2:1 lead. Both teams then served more strongly and held their serve until, with the score standing at 5:4, the Belgian duo broke again to take the set.

At 1:1 in the second set, the match had to be interrupted again for around 45 minutes due to rain. Krawietz/Koolhof were less perturbed by that than the Belgian doubles specialists and subsequently got back into their stride much sooner. As a result, they took a 4:2 advantage and went on to win the set.

The final was decided in a super tie-break, where the winners are the first to reach ten points with a margin of two or more points. Krawietz/Koolhof got off to a strong start and were cruising at 7:1 and 9:2, before converting their fourth match ball to make it 10:5 and win their first tournament of the 2021 season.

With this title in his pocket, Krawietz now moves on to this week’s Madrid Open, where he will team up with Horia Tecau. The upcoming highlights of the season are the French Open and the Summer Olympics in Tokyo – his doubles partner has not yet been finalized.
