The start of the season – and the first points in Imola

Imola, 07-29-2020

After a long break, the GT World Challenge started into the 2020 racing season on the traditional Italian circuit in Imola last weekend. Christian Engelhart and his teammates Matteo Cairoli and Sven Müller experienced a rollercoaster ride of emotions for the Dinamic Motorsport team – and they also gained their first points!

Without the benefit of any test rides on this track, which was new for the German, the learning time was limited, and some fast adaptation was required. The incredibly close qualifying finally resulted in tenth place on the grid for the German-Italian squad. Although this didn’t quite meet the targets they had set, it was a good starting position for the three-hour race in the field of 46 GT3 race cars.

During the race, Christian also managed a very good first stint as the starting driver, advancing to sixth position – and he put a lot of pressure on the Audi #31 that was destined to win the race. However, a technical problem during refueling at the first pit stop threw the trio far behind. Back in 34th place, the Dinamic Porsche then began a real battle to overtake as many competitors as possible – and it succeeded in joining the points winners in the remaining two hours of the race!

“We’re not really satisfied with 10th place, because we had a good chance to actually get on the podium here in Imola – but everyone in the team did a great job and when that problem occurred at the first pit stop, we didn’t bury our heads in the sand. We fought well and got some points, so the effort was worth it. We’ll be going for the lead again at the next GT World Challenge race at the Nürburgring. Now I’m really looking forward to the season opener of the ADAC GT Masters next weekend at the Lausitzring”, says Christian Engelhart.
