Prototype Welding Engineer

Your tasks

  • Knowledge of ABB robotics, Laser welding (Trumpf/IPG laser source, Blackbird/Trumpf scanner optics), Gas Metal Arc Welding (Fronius/SKS), Siemens PLC, and On-line process monitoring (4D, OCT)
  • Independent definition and improvement of related robotic welding programs and parameters
  • Troubleshoot and maintain welding cells, including maintenance of prototype fixture and spare parts inventory, lead problem solving to reduce and prevent reoccurring issues on the shop floor
  • Oversee the investigation, analysis and execution of technical improvements within the welding process to improve cost efficiency, increase machine uptime and reduce scrap
  • Continuously advance weld technology and staff with state of the art processes and know-how transfers with internal and external partners, including the creation and implementation of training material encompassing all aspects of the technology
  • Provide project management guidance and expertise to the team to ensure efficiency, transparency and optimal effectiveness is achieved on internal and external projects
  • Support new product/project feasibility studies for welding and enabling product/process innovation
  • Verify and approve weld assemblies and setup using CMM, CEP, UTM and/or torque tests
  • Functional leadership of the welding shop floor, ensuring correct methods and systems are used and supporting the functional development of the team
  • Adhere to relevant Brose and OSHA policies with respect to environmental, safety and 5S requirements
  • Proactively identify potential risks, drive resolution, and alert the responsible manager when necessary
  • In case of severe risks to quality and/or safety, authority to shut down prototype equipment

Your Profile

  • Welding Technology, Robotics or Manufacturing Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 4+ years of work experience in robotic laser and gas metal arc welding
  • 2+ years of work experience providing direction to welding technicians or shopfloor personnel
  • Ensure efficient, high-quality laser and GMAW prototype production

  • Provide leadership and direction to welding technicians, ensuring that established methods and procedures are complied with during prototype production

  • Drive research and development projects that improve process capability, quality and costs
