Basketball Bundesliga: Brose Bamberg

Bamberg, 11-28-2022

The worst Bundesliga start in Bamberg's club history is followed by the first consequences: Brose Bamberg loses Friday night at home against Veolia Towers Hamburg on the fifth matchday of the Basketball Bundesliga. On Saturday, the Bamberg team suspends top scorer and playmaker Justin Wright-Foreman, talks about a contract termination are ongoing.

As in the last narrowly lost home games against Crailsheim and Ylli, the duel against Hamburg was one in which Bamberg robbed itself of victory in the final minutes. Midway through the second quarter, things were looking good for Bamberg: after taking thirteen three-point attempts in the first quarter, they focused on baskets from inside from the 19:23 deficit. After a timeout by Hamburg the thread broke, until the break only the basket by top scorer Christian Sengfelder succeeded against the more intensive Hamburg defense - 37:39.

In the third quarter, Bamberg regained the lead, also because they took good care of the ball and only lost three balls in the 30 minutes. Sengfelder increased the lead again to 61:58 at the beginning of the final quarter, but when Hamburg countered with free throws and baskets, Bamberg got nervous again. They started their attacks too hastily, lost the ball six times in the last eight minutes, and tried to make more three-pointers as if they were trying to break the game open. Especially in the decisive minutes, the Bambergers' nerves failed them, and despite a similarly poor performance, Hamburg took the still clear 66-76 victory.

Oren Amiel (head coach Brose Bamberg): "Hamburg made the right decisions in the end, that's why they won. Whenever it goes into the decisive phase, we don't know how to play anymore. I now have to create actions that don't seem comprehensible to outsiders. Nevertheless, the decision against Wright-Foreman is right because it's in the team's best interest."

On Wednesday, 02.11.2022, Brose Bamberg wants to defend the first place in the group on the fourth matchday of the FIBA Europe Cup: Mandatory for this is a victory over the Niners Chemnitz. Jump in the Brose Arena is at 8 pm.
