Tennis: Krawietz misses out on semifinals at US Open

Ne York City, 09-08-2021

Brose-supported tennis player Kevin Krawietz missed out on a place in the semifinals at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. Together with his doubles partner Horia Tecău, he lost to the US doubles team of Querrey/Johnson 2:6 and 6:7 (5:7).

Krawietz/Tecău did not find their game in the first set and could not keep up with the high pace of the US Americans. The only two break chances for Krawietz/Tecău in the entire match on their opponents' second service game went unused and so the German-Romanian doubles had to give up the set after only 23 minutes.

In the second set, Krawietz/Tecău found more access to the match, fended off a decisive break point and thus fought their way into the set tiebreak. In the course of the tournament, Krawietz/Tecău had won all tiebreaks so far. However, they lacked their usual nerves of steel and a bit of luck against the Americans, who converted their first match point.

Starting next season, Kevin will play again together with his regular partner Andreas Mies, who returned to the professional tour at the beginning of August after a long injury break. Together, the two won the French Open doubles competition in 2019 and 2020.
