ATP Masters Madrid: Krawietz and Pütz lose in the semi-finals

Madrid, 05-03-2025

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz narrowly missed out on the final at the Mutua Madrid Open. The German world champion duo lost 6:7 (6:8) and 5:7 to Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the semi-finals. The Germans will continue in a few days' time with the Masters tournament in Rome, before the Hamburg-Rothenbaum tournament is on the program.

The duel between the 3rd (Krawietz/Pütz) and 5th seeded teams was a thrilling match of equals. Krawietz/Pütz only allowed their opponents one break opportunity in the first game. After that, there were no more break opportunities until the tiebreak. The Germans initially looked more confident in the tiebreak and had two set points at 6:4. However, Granollers/Zeballos won the first set with four strong points in a row.

In the second set, Krawietz and Pütz struggled with their interplay. Only a short time later, it was 5:2 for the Argentinian-Spanish doubles team. But the Coburg-born player and his Hessian partner showed their strong nerves and fought their way back. But at 5:6, Krawietz/Pütz did not serve well enough: another break for the Spaniard and the Argentinian. After 105 minutes of play, Granollers and Zeballos made it through to the final.
