Bamberg Baskets Vice Cup Winners!

The Bamberg Baskets reached the final of the BBL Cup but were defeated by Mitteldeutscher BC with a score of 87:97. After a convincing 76:63 victory in the semi-final against the Frankfurt Skyliners, hopes were high for a seventh cup win and the first title since 2019. However, in the final, the Weißenfels team, who had surprisingly knocked out defending champions FC Bayern with a 95:93 win, proved too strong.

In the semi-final, Bamberg dominated from the start. The Skyliners struggled against the aggressive defense of the Gavel boys and found no solutions offensively. Ibrahim Watson, along with Ronaldo Segu and KeyShawn Feazell, led their team to a well-deserved victory.

The final, however, developed differently than hoped. MBC started aggressively and forced Bamberg into early turnovers. After the first quarter, Anton Gavel's team was already trailing 17:28. Defensively, Bamberg was unusually lax, which the hosts consistently exploited. Despite a strong free-throw percentage and occasional comebacks, Bamberg never really got into the game. Former Bamberg player Spencer Reaves made life difficult for the Gavel team with precise passes. The late comeback led by top scorers Ronaldo Degu, Moritz Krimmer, and Keyshawn Feazell could not prevent the defeat.
Thus, the Bamberg Baskets remain with six cup wins in their history. They have now finished second in this competition for the fourth time.
Due to the international break, Bamberg will next be in action on March 3rd. At 8:00 PM, they will play away against Alba Berlin.
