BBL: Away Defeat in Berlin

After two victories against ALBA in the Bundesliga and the BBL Cup, the Bamberg Baskets lost their third encounter with the Berliners this season. On Monday evening, in the 22nd matchday, the team led by Head Coach Anton Gavel was defeated by the Albatrosses 77:86 (34:39) at the Uber Arena.
The Bamberg team started their away game in the capital well-prepared and highly focused. They repeatedly sought to get under the basket in the early stages. After Ibi Watson's three-point play, the Albatrosses grew stronger midway through the first quarter. A three-pointer by Matt Thomas and a successful layup by Justin Bean gave the hosts their first lead. However, the Bamberg team did not lose their composure and managed to close the gap to just two points by the end of the quarter. The Berliners now increasingly sought to penetrate the zone. They repeatedly cut successfully to the basket and, after a 7:0 run, extended their lead to 21:27. After further good actions on both sides, a long-range shot by Yanni Wetzell three seconds before the halftime buzzer resulted in a 34:39 halftime score. At the beginning of the second half, the Berliners were able to maintain their lead. However, the game was far from decided, as the Bamberg team gave their all once again. After Kyle Lofton's layup to make it 54:58, they were back in the game with 109 seconds left in the third quarter. Ibi Watson's three-pointer at the end of the quarter reduced the deficit to just three points (59:62). A 7:0 run gave ALBA an 11-point lead again with 4:11 minutes remaining (64:75). The Baskets tried everything once more, but William McDowell-White's layup to make it 73:82 with only 48 seconds left meant the decision was made.
On 05.03.2025, the Baskets will play away against Dziki Warsaw. Tip-off is at 18:00.
