medi bayreuth wins by 72:56 in Frankfurt

There’s still nothing stopping medi bayreuth. On the eighth matchday of the easyCredit German Basketball League, the team of Head Coach Raoul Korner captured its seventh victory of the season. The Heroes Of Tomorrow won at FRAPORT SKYLINERS by 72:56 (33:23) in front of a crowd of 4,030 and so managed to leap spectacularly into third in the table.

This time, it was above all thanks to a strong team performance in defense that Bayreuth remained unbeaten in its fourth away game of the season. medi’s Head Coach Raoul Korner had instilled into his team that defensive work, which is usually Frankfurt’s particular forte, was the key to victory. And the Heroes Of Tomorrow, brimming with confidence, took that to heart that with outstanding resolve to capture an expressive win on the road.

During the game, it was not only the players of medi bayreuth who took control on court. The around 100 Bayreuth fans who had made the journey also kept on drowning out the crowd in the sparsely filled Fraport Arena with their loud support and in the end were able to enthusiastically celebrate their team’s fourth straight away win and its seventh overall in succession.

Brief summary of the encounter

Frankfurt had resolved to turn in a tight performance in defense and also managed to – in least in the opening minutes. Although the first points went to medi bayreuth, the SKYLINERS were ahead until the score stood at 10:8 in the 7th minute. The Heroes Of Tomorrow really turned on the heat toward the end of the first period: Trey Lewis with eight points and Assem Marei with six made it 18:12 after the first quarter. medi extended its lead in the second period. After a bucket from downtown by Kyan Anderson, the gap was ten points for the first time (26:16 in the 17th minute) – and remained that way at the break (33:23).

After an evenly matched start to the second half, the Heroes Of Tomorrow stretched their lead to 46:32 in the 27th minute thanks to three by Trey Lewis and Nate Linhart. The Heroes Of Tomorrow kept on reliably draining their shots from beyond the arc after that – two by Steve Wachalski, as well as points by Assem Marei from close distance made it 56:41 after 30 minutes.

In the final quarter, the SKYLINERS were no longer able to put medi’s seventh straight win in danger. After the former Bayreuth player Ekene Ibekwe made it 48:60 in the 34th minute, the visitors put more points on the board. De’Mon Brooks even extended the lead to 20 points (68:48) in the 37th minute, by when no one doubted that Bayreuth would chalk up what was definitely a well-deserved victory.
