AWO Mehr Generationen Haus Coburg: New Meeting Place in Ketschendorf

Coburg, 07-01-2023

In order to promote intergenerational offers and the project "Neighbourhood Network", the AWO Bezirksverband Ober- und Mittelfranken e. V. has opened a new meeting place in the district of Ketschendorf.

In recent months, the former restaurant of the allotment garden site there has been transformed into an inviting place for residents of the south-east of Coburg. The neighbourhood network of the AWO now organises various event formats for mutual exchange and offers assistance in everyday life. A social worker works closely with volunteers to offer activities for people of all ages.

"At a time when traditional meeting places are disappearing because more and more inns, bakeries or butchers are closing, personal exchange is being lost and loneliness is increasing," explains Liane Blietzsch, director of the AWO Mehr Generationen Haus. This is where the new meeting place offers a substitute. The interaction in the network has a great side effect: the volunteers help each other and are also in contact with each other beyond their activities. "The fact that the volunteers support each other like 'real' neighbours and are there for each other is a real added value. This makes social work sustainable and shows how valuable it is to act locally." Blietzsch continues.

Brose has been supporting the work of the AWO Coburg since 2016. The cooperation also led to contact with the Coburg Design Forum Upper Franconia, whose employees support the AWO in the design of the Kennedy facility in Ketschendorf and the organisation of workshops with citizens.

"The work of the AWO makes a valuable contribution to good social coexistence. Strong cohesion is important - even within our family business, we can only be successful if we all pull together," explains Steffen Tauss, Vice President Social and Health Services at the Brose Group. "The fact that we can also bring together partners from our network who want to make a difference on the ground at the same time makes me very happy," Tauss continues.

The Kennedy facility at Dr.-Walter-Langer-Strasse 22 will be open almost daily from July.
