Basketball: Brose Bamberg loses to Niners Chemnitz

Bayreuth, 09-03-2022

With 87:110 Brose Bamberg lost in the semifinals of the expert Jakob Cup of medi bayreuth against the Niners Chemnitz. The eight players from Bamberg - Sengfelder and Bohačík are away with the national team, Chachashvili, Bell and Wohlrath are still injured - showed a committed performance and made up high double-digit deficits several times.

Brose Bamberg had problems with the speed of the Chemnitz team at the beginning, let itself be overrun several times and was trailing by double digits after four minutes: 7:18. While the Saxons continued to play forward quickly, the Bamberg team did not succeed offensively. As a result, Brose trailed by 17 points after six minutes. After that, however, the Bamberg team became the active team for the first time with a move to the basket, self-confidence and six points in a row, Spencer Reaves reduced the deficit to ten points. With 23:34 it went into the first quarter break. In the second ten minutes, the Bamberg defense in particular stood up better. Brose allowed only two Chemnitz points until the 14th minute and reduced the deficit to 37:41 thanks to two Reaves threes and a four-point play by Tyreese Blunt. The final phase of the first half also belonged to the Bambergers, who were able to minimize the deficit to two points at halftime thanks to another Blunt three-pointer: 51:53.

Leon Bulić leveled the score for the first time after 45 seconds of play in the second half: 53:53. As a result, however, the Bambergers increasingly noticed that they could only operate with a rotation of eight players. Concentration waned, ball losses and missed throws were the consequence. Chemnitz exploited this mercilessly and pulled away again (61:77). Justin Wright-Foreman in particular held his own towards the end of the quarter with three-pointers, beautiful drives and a total of eleven points in a row. Before the final period, Brose Bamberg trailed by twelve points. As the game wore on, the Bambergers became more tired - no wonder, since almost all players had to go well over 20, some even well over 30 minutes. In the end, Brose Bamberg lost 87-110 to the Niners Chemnitz.
