Basketball Bundesliga: Bamberg Baskets also lose at the champions

Ulm, 04-06-2024

Bamberg Baskets held its own against German champions Ratiopharm Ulm for one half and led 53:52 at the break. In the third period, the Woltmann players conceded too many turnovers and so had to go home with a 90:106 defeat.

Bamberg's players were strong in offense in the first half: The Woltmann players took a 33:27 lead in the first quarter and turned a 41:45 deficit into a 48:45 advantage with a quick 7:0 run before the break. However, the whirlwind in offense by top scorers Filip Stanic and Zach Copeland, who both chalked up 17 points apiece, could not disguise the weak defensive performance - the visitors went in at the break 53:52 ahead. Bamberg suffered a collective blackout in offense in the third quarter and lost its self-confidence. Ulm capitalized on seven turnovers and offensive fouls by Bamberg to produce a run of 2:17 in the space of five minutes and stretched the gap from 58:75 in the third quarter to 69:93. Copeland, Justin Gray and Trey Woodbury tried to catch up once more, but Ulm only allowed Bamberg to reduce the deficit to 86:98.

Arne Woltmann (Head Coach Bamberg Baskets) commented: "We lost our heads for a brief spell after a good first half. We lost possession fourteen times after the break and Ulm converted many of them into fast-break points. Ulm deserved to win with a clear third quarter."

Bamberg Baskets host Hamburg Towers on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Tip-off is at 3:30 p.m
