Basketball Bundesliga: Brose Bamberg gives Alba Berlin a great fight

Bamberg, 10-02-2022

Brose Bamberg started the new 2022/23 Bundesliga season with a defeat. But the 80:90 result against Alba Berlin looks clearer than the course of the game presented itself. Head coach Oren Amiel's newly formed team held their own against the well-rehearsed German champions until shortly before the end of the game, but it was only after the 35th minute (65:66) that Alba pulled away to win.

Already in the first minutes, Berlin had caused the playmaker to lose the ball twice, and Bamberg was down 3:10 as a result. With a three-pointer and a basket, Bamberg's veteran Jaromír Bohačík started the chase, after his three-pointer and basket, the home side was up 15:17. Berlin's Maodo Lo countered to make it 15:24, Patrick Heckmann forced the Berlin ball loss, laid off for Spencer Reaves, who converted the three-pointer buzzer beater with the quarter siren to make it 20:24. After Kevin Wohlrath's three-pointer, Heckmann hit two free throws, completing Bamberg's 10-0 run to lead 25:24. In the following period, Berlin grabbed second throwing chances through some offensive rebounds, which they used better than the Bambergers and went into the dressing room with a 40:42 lead.

Oren Amiel (head coach Brose Bamberg): "The atmosphere was terrific. Our fans pushed us even when things didn't go our way. The game is simply summed up: if we lose the ball against Alba, especially in phases when the momentum could change in our favor, you pay for it immediately. We need to learn to be better against such physical teams. But, the commitment and passion were there, we never gave up. That shows what's in the team, and that gives me confidence."

Already on Tuesday, 04.10.2022, Brose Bamberg will host HAKRO Merlins Crailsheim at their home Brose Arena. Jump is at 8 p.m.
