Basketball: medi bayreuth loses 79:95 to Hanseatic team on match day 3

Bayreuth, 10-08-2022

A sleepy first quarter on the part of medi bayreuth was enough for the Veolia Towers Hamburg to take the points in the matchday 3 in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga from the Oberfrankenhalle in Bayreuth quite confidently in the match presented by TMT.

With a three-pointer by Ahmed Hill, our team opened the 3rd game in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga. However, Veolia Towers Hamburg always knew the right answer to medi's attacks right from the start. The game developed into a hard-fought match, in which the guests from Hamburg quickly took the lead, so that Head Coach Lars Masell was forced to take the first timeout. With a 15:27 deficit, medi went into the first quarter break.

Again and again, Veolia Towers Hamburg scored easy points with long passes directly under the basket. From then on, the North Germans were denied the easy game they had had so far and were forced to make difficult throws. When Kay Bruhnke, a good two minutes before halftime, brought the deficit back into single digits with a three-pointer, hope sprouted again among the medi fans. Once again, however, it was simple mistakes that did not allow the deficit to decrease and so the Towers were able to extend the lead again to 13 points at halftime.

Two successful three-point shots by Ahmed Hill and a better rebounding performance allowed our team to come back quickly. However, the Hamburg team was not at all impressed by this, but continued to act confidently and, above all, unerringly, so that they still led clearly after 30 minutes with 72:58.

Our team started into the final quarter like the fire department. The defense looked secure and in the offense, the throws that had been missed before suddenly fell. Thus, Hamburg's coach Raoul Korner was forced to ask his team to speak after only two minutes. They moved the ball confidently and forced medi to make mistakes, so that Head Coach Raoul Korner's team deserved to win the game with 95:79 in the end.

Lars Masell (Head Coach medi bayreuth):

"First of all, congratulations to Raoul and his Veolia Towers Hamburg. They definitely deserved to win. We committed 19 turnovers and we have to learn to pass the ball better on offense. It took us too long to get into the game and we definitely can't afford that. We have to see this game as motivation to move forward and learn from those mistakes."

The outlook:

Now our team first has some time to prepare for the next opponent. For this duel, Bastian Doreth & Co. will have to take the A9 freeway north again, because medi will host SYNTAINICS MBC in the Magenta Sport BBL Cup Round of 16 on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Stadthalle Weißenfels.
