Basketball: medi bayreuth loses away game at NINERS Chemnitz with 77:84

Chemnitz, 12-16-2022

Even after the sixth attempt this season, medi bayreuth remains without an away win. In the guest game at the NINERS Chemnitz, the Bayreuth team lost 77:84 in front of 4,456 spectators at the Messe Chemnitz on the 10th matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga.

The first gaps in the medi defense were punished by the Saxons ice-cold and lightning fast. First it was Jonas Richter and then Dominic Lockhart who increased the host's lead to 5:0. Afterwards, however, the Bayreuth team woke up and was able to equalize for the first time after six minutes of play and then, thanks to a three-pointer by Kay Bruhnke, even took the lead at 17:16 just a few minutes later. However, the NINERS immediately knew how to respond to this medi run and went into the first quarter break with a slim 22:19 lead.

The second ten minutes of the game belonged to the home team, which quickly extended its lead and imposed its speed on medi. The Bayreuth team was initially able to counter and equalize with a three-pointer by captain Bastian Doreth in the 14th minute of play, but the NINERS were too settled in this phase of the game. medi managed to keep up well until the 16th minute and close the gap. However, NINERS Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore urged his boys in a timeout to be more self-confident and encouraged them to take the free throws, which they did more than successfully, so that the Bayreuth team was already 38:50 behind at halftime.

The NINERS went to the basket in a relaxed manner, continued to impose their fast game on medi and dominated on the defensive end. All these components, coupled with a lack of confidence on the part of Bayreuth and poor finishing, ensured that the hosts held a 19-point lead after 30 minutes.

In the final period, medi tried everything again and even managed to cut the lead to five points with an 18:2 run, but the NINERS were not impressed by this and sealed the sixth BBL defeat in a row for our team with an 84:77 home win on the 10th matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga.

Lars Masell (Head Coach medi bayreuth):

"Congratulations to Chemnitz and coach Rodrigo. The NINERS are a very good team. We showed heart, made good adjustments to Chemnitz' big lineup, were close again, but just didn't get into our passing game offensively enough. That's actually where one of our strengths lies when we do it right. My players fought hard today. You can't blame anyone for that. For us, it's about finding ways to finally reward ourselves."

Once again it's away for our team. This time, the road takes our team to Göttingen, where it will face the Violets on Thursday, 22.12. Jump in the early game of the 18th matchday in the Sparkassen Arena in Göttingen is at 19:00.
