BBC fights its way to the next victory in Ulm

Ulm, 01-29-2023

BBC Coburg extended its winning streak in the BARMER 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB in Ulm. The Coburg team won 81-87 at the Orange Academy, mainly thanks to a formidable performance in the second quarter. In the end, things got exciting again as the hosts fought their way back from a 20-point deficit. In the final phase, however, Coburg's basketballers held their nerve and took valuable points from Swabia.

Brahe and Fuchs quickly put the home side in front 4-0. Adrian Petkovic answered with a long three-pointer and cut the lead to 4:3. The young Ulm team defended with concentration and made no concessions to the Coburg offense. But the Coburg team also played tenacious defense. For the first time, the Vestädter took the lead with a floater by Worthy with 10:9. While Ulm played out their dominance under the basket with Großkopf and Fuchs, the Coburgers looked for their luck with the distance throws. Jannis Sonnefeld and Sven Lorber were successful twice in a row from downtown. The first quarter went to Coburg with 18:15.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Adrian Worthy continued to flourish, first putting a basket into the net and then hitting a three-pointer from the corner despite defensive pressure. The BBC increasingly forced the young Ulm team to lose the ball. Consequently, Suput and Lorber extended the Coburg lead to nine points. The home side completely lost control of the game. After a strong performance in the second period, Coburg took a 29:49 lead into the break.

Because Ulm then did better at the start of the second half and started with quick points from Langenfeld via dunk and a three-pointer from Jensen, BBC head coach Milos Petkovic felt compelled to call a quick timeout to nip the hosts' rebellion in the bud. However, Coburg now lost its offensive rhythm, which was due to the significantly higher intensity of the young Ulm team. With a triple, Orange Academy forward Fuchs shortened the gap to 38:54. The guests, on the other hand, had to work for their points. Jannis Sonnefeld did this with bravura and remained sovereign at the free throw line. Coburg remained focused and successfully fought off the home side's resistance. At 52:67, it went into the final chord.

Again, Ulm started the quarter with steam, David Fuchs let his team's deficit melt down to 56:67. But also in the fourth quarter the Vestädter found the right answers. After Worthy and Suput scored for Coburg, Tyreese Blunt nailed a three-pointer, giving the BBC a 71-57 lead again. Just a short time later, it was Blunt again who successfully converted from the free throw line after an unsportsmanlike foul by Lenny Liedtke.

However, the Swabians did not give up. David Fuchs brought the Ulm deficit back into single digits with a three-point play. When Fuchs made it 71:77 a little later, the game was open again. With 27 seconds left, it was David Fuchs again who made it 79:82 from beyond the line. On top of that, Coburg quickly gave the ball back and the hosts regained possession. Adrian Worthy crowned his performance 17 seconds before the buzzer with two converted free throws in crunch time. When Suput also sank an ice-cold shot, the match was decided.
