BBL: Referee Decision Costs Bamberg the Victory!
Even hours after the end of the game, the blood pressure of many Bamberg basketball fans is likely still far above normal. In the 101:98 (50:51) away defeat of the Bamberg Baskets at RASTA Vechta, the situation in the 27th minute of the game, which had a significant impact on the outcome of the 8th matchday in the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, is likely responsible. Bamberg’s point guard Ronaldo Segu was excluded from the game by the referees. However, not only Dyn commentator Stefan Koch saw this decision as unjustified.
The game, characterized by intense offense on both sides, was long balanced. A strong run finally brought the hosts into the lead (26:21). But the game turned again, and shortly before the break, MaCio Teague scored from the halfway line to give Bamberg a 50:51 halftime lead. At 70:70, there was a heated confrontation between Ronaldo Segu and Brandon Randolph. The result - two technical fouls against Segu and thus the disqualification. The loss of the playmaker threw the guests off rhythm. Only five seconds before the end did Bamberg come close again at 99:98, but Rasta sealed the deal with two free throws.
At the end of the game, Head Coach Anton Gavel’s team had collected more rebounds than the opponent. Vechta’s excellent three-point percentage of 19 hits from 33 attempts (58 percent) was ultimately the winning factor for RASTA Vechta, if you only look at the statistics sheet of the game. Bamberg’s top scorer in the sold-out RASTA Dome with 3,140 spectators was once again Ibi Watson with 24 points.
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the Bamberg Baskets will be away at MBC. Jump is at 18:30.
