Brose Bamberg wins first test of the new season
Brose Bamberg has won its first test game in the run-up to the new season by 88:80 against MLP Academics Heidelberg. The team of Ainars Bagatskis produced good basketball in attack and defense, especially in the second period, which it won 28:7. The top scorer in a homogeneous Brose side was Augustine Rubit with 13 points; Cliff Alexander snapped up eight rebounds and Tyrese Rice made five assists.
An evenly balanced first quarter (30:29), in which it was apparent that 13 tough training units had taken their toll on the newly formed Bamberg team, was followed by a period that was all the better. The home side’s defense was water-tight and did not allow Heidelberg to score a point from the floor until two-and-a-half minutes before the break. Its systems in offense worked well and successfully. As a result, Bamberg took the second period by 28:7 to go in at half-time ahead by 58:36. The club from the ProA division got into the game better in the second half and the legs of Brose’s players now visibly began to grow heavier and heavier, too. The visitors won the third quarter by 27:20 and also took the final period by 17:10. Nevertheless, Bamberg ran out winners by 88:80 in what was a good initial test.
