Coburg comeback win to kick off the second half of the season

Oberhaching, 01-07-2024

BBC Coburg got off to a successful start to the new year with a 103:90 away win at Tropics Oberhaching. However, that required a remarkable comeback in the second half after a subterranean first half. Six BBC players scored in double figures. Shooting guard Gabriel Kuku was once again the top scorer with 25 points.

Head Coach Patrick Seidel summed up the away win: "The game was an extreme thriller, but we deserved to win after an outstanding second half. We defended extremely poorly at the start and conceded 52 points, which is simply not good enough. We defended much, much better in the second half and grabbed the rebounds, which enabled us to make fast breaks and get rolling more and more. There was still a lot of rust in the first half and we were standing on each other's toes, but after half-time we got our shots away much better and I'm very happy with our performance."

After a weak first half in which the club from Coburg simply made too many mistakes, it went in at half-time trailing by 16 points. Head Coach Patrick Seidel seems to have found the right words there, as the BBC then unleashed a veritable firework display in offence in the second half and defended with much more commitment than in the previous 20 minutes. Coburg scored 67 points in the third and fourth quarters and only conceded 38 points to Oberhaching at the other end. This victory gives the BBC a little breathing space ahead of its direct rivals for the playoffs and means it is now sixth in the ProB South after the 14th matchday.

BBC Coburg continues next Saturday ,13 January with its first home game of the year. It will be a rematch of the Upper Franconia derby, as TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach will be the guests in the HUK-Coburg arena.
