Dinkel aims to become 2018 German Rally champion

  • An interview with the leader in the DRM
Rossach/Tiefenbach, 08-27-2018

Dominik Dinkel and Christina Fürst are leading the 2018 German Rally Championship (DRM) after five of the eight races. They aim to capture the title with a good team performance and further podium placements in the next three events. Dominik Dinkel talked about that in more detail in this interview:

After finishing as runners-up in 2017, your sights are set on winning the title this year. Are you happy about how the season has gone so far?

Our clear goal is to win the championship. I’m thoroughly satisfied with how the season has gone up to now. We’ve always been able to capture places on the rostrum, we won the Sulingen Rally, and we narrowly missed out on victory in Stemwede because of a mistake by me. We were also the best German teams in rallies where there were guest starters like Kalle Rovanperä.

There are only a few points between you and the teams chasing you in the championship. How are you approaching the final three races in the DRM?

I feel very relaxed going into the last 3 races. I won the Lower Saxony Rally last year and that’s our goal again this year. I last participated in the Erzgebirge Rally in the Opel ADAM R2. The demanding courses suited me. My personal highlight is my home event, the Three Towns Rally. In particular the new Rally Center at Am Hagen in Straubing will attract many spectators. I’m looking forward to that most of all this year. I love the atmosphere, the courses – and the support of the many fans who make the journey. We were able to win the event last year – and I’m hell bent on repeating that success this year!

The next race in the DRM is in Osterode, Lower Saxony, on September 7 and 8. How are you preparing for it?

I’m using the break until the Lower Saxony Rally to attune myself to the event’s character. We’ll complete a test shortly before the rally so that we’re ideally prepared for it. It rained last year and that suited me fine, so I hope that it’ll be wet again in 2018.

What are your highlights at the Lower Saxony Rally?

My highlight at the Lower Saxony Rally is the “Elbingerode” trial. It’s challenging and fun. But the courses like “Hattdorf” or “Ührde” have also stuck in my mind.

Will the 2018 German Rally champion be Dominik Dinkel?

I’ll do all I can to ensure that the 2018 German Rally champions are Dominik Dinkel and Christina Fürst. My dream’s always been to become German champion and I aim to make it come true in 2018. I’m over the moon to see how everyone is working toward our common goal in the background. Everyone in the team is motivated and giving their best. A big thank-you goes to my sponsors, above all my long-standing backer Michael Stoschek and his company Brose. They’ve accompanied and supported me since I launched my career.
