HC Erlangen defeats TBV Lemgo Lippe in front of an enthusiastic crowd
HC Erlangen inspired its fans and celebrated a 28:25 home win against TBV Lemgo Lippe on Thursday evening. In a fiercely contested encounter, the HC put up a great fight and was finally rewarded for its courageous performance by picking up two further points.
It turned out to be the evenly matched game everyone had expected on the 11th matchday of the season. Patrick Zieker put the TBV ahead with his goal from the wing, but Nikolai Link made short shrift on the next attack to put HC Erlangen level at 1:1. The visitors from Eastern Westphalia pulled two goals ahead for the first time in the 16th minute. After Sellin captured possession, Bissel finished a fast break to make the score 8:9. 20 seconds later, the club from Franconia again stole possession in defense and this time it was Johannes Sellin who buried the ball in the opposing net on a counterattack. From then on until the break, the HC was ahead every minute. After Sellin made it 13:11 in the 30th minute, Hornke reduced the deficit to 13:12 with a seven-meter penalty on the buzzer.
After the restart, Link was thwarted by the in-form Johannesson and the TBV tied the encounter at 13:13 on a fast break. One attack later it was Christoph Steinert who put the HC back in front with his first goal of the game. With his side short-handed, Dominik Mappes finished a pass by Büdel to make it 16:15. The 5,127 spectators saw a key moment in the 41st minute. Ebner stopped Sellin as he was attempting a shot on a fast break, which the two referees punished with a direct red card. However, the HC Erlangen did not exploit its superior numbers uncompromisingly enough to extend its lead further. It was not until the 47th minute that Sellin, who was in accurate shooting form, scored twice in a row to give his team its first three-goal lead. With the score standing at 23:20, the fans were no longer able to remain seated. To standing ovations, Schäffer completed a pass from Mappes to as good as seal the encounter (26:23). The TBV’s offensive man-to-man covering also did not disconcert the home side. In the end, HC Erlangen reaped the rewards for its great fight and celebrated a 28:25 victory together with its fans.
“I’m very satisfied with how my team played today. We finally rewarded ourselves with two points and managed to keep our cool. I’d also like to express my big thanks to our fans. The atmosphere was sensational,” said Head Coach Aðalsteinn Eyjólfsson after the game.
