HCE maintains its 100% home record

Nuremberg, 10-10-2015

The German league club from Franconia defeated Wilhelmshavener HV 40:32 (19:13) to maintain its 100% home record.

The team of Head Coach Robert Andersson got off to a restrained start, but then stepped up several gears after ten minutes. In particular Nicolai Theilinger, who was chosen by the HCE’s fans as Player of the Month for September on Saturday, showed just why he was picked. The left-hander kept on probing aggressively for gaps in the visitors’ covering and displayed commanding finishing. In the subsequent spell, Martin Stranovsky read the game very well and set up good shooting positions for his teammates, enabling Erlangen to keep on stretching its lead. Nikolai Link produced the highlight of the first half: the right half soared into the air from 15 meters out and propelled the ball into the net to make it 19:13 four seconds before half-time.

It was also Nikolai Link who dictated the second 30 minutes. The man from Bavarian Swabia was his side’s top scorer and finished with a haul of ten goals. HC Erlangen finally ran out winners by a deserved eight-goal margin and can now prepare for the Franconian derby in a week’s time. The eyes of the entire region will be on Nuremberg next Saturday when HC Erlangen comes up against HSC 2000 Coburg. The tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Robert Andersson commented: “I was very satisfied about how we played in offense today. The distances between the players weren’t right today in defense and so Wilhelmshaven was often able to break through. We’re happy to have won and are looking forward to the derby next week.”
