Kevin Krawietz reaches the final at the Challenger tournament in Heilbronn

Heilbronn, 05-27-2018

After winning the tournament in Rome, the tennis professional Kevin Krawietz from Witzmannsberg and his doubles partner Andreas Mies traveled directly to the 5th Neckar Cup in Heilbronn, a Challenger world ranking tournament with prize money of €85,000.

In the semi-final, they came up against the “familiar faces” of the Belgian duo Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, whom they had defeated in the final in Rome just last Saturday. The Belgians were itching to exact revenge, but did not manage to. The two Germans played with great force and aggression, winning by 6:1 and 7:6. That meant Krawietz had reached another doubles final. The opponents were Rameez Junaid and David Pel. Krawietz/Mies lost the first set to the in-form duo by 2:6. In the second set, the two Germans returned very well and put away their volleys at the net without any mistakes to take it by 6:2 and so force a super tie-break. Krawietz/Mies got off to an unfortunate start and trailed 0:3. After that, they played consistently, but were no longer able to close the gap decisively and ended up losing narrowly by 7:10.

After a brief disappointment at their defeat, the two were satisfied with their second place. “We lost the first set too quickly and had a bit of bad luck in the tie-break, but we again played a good tournament.” His appearance in the final means Kevin Krawietz has improved to 93rd in the doubles world rankings.
