Tennis: ATP Cup - Germany misses semifinals

Sydney , 01-06-2022

For Kevin Krawietz and Co. the ATP Cup is over. Against Canada there was the second defeat in the third match. Already before the elimination was certain due to the British victory.

The German men's tennis team missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the ATP Cup. Brose-backed tennis pro Kevin Krawietz and Co. lost 2-1 to Canada in Sydney on Thursday, conceding their second defeat. However, their elimination from the preliminary round was already certain before the match because Great Britain had won 2-1 against the USA in the first match of the day. Because Germany had lost to the British in the opening game, even a win against Canada would not have been enough to advance due to the worse direct comparison with Great Britain.

The defeat against Canada was already sealed after the two singles matches. After Jan-Lennard Struff had lost 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 3:6 against Denis Shapovalov despite a strong performance, Zverev was also defeated in the top singles match by Felix Auger-Aliassime 4:6, 6:4, 3:6. In the doubles match, which was therefore meaningless, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz won against Steven Diez and Brayden Schnur 6:3, 6:4.

The Australian Open will start on January 17. Here Kevin Krawietz will start with his regular partner Andreas Mies, who is back after a one year forced break. We wish them both every success.
