Tiago Monteiro’s return to competition nominated for "FIA Action of the Year" award
After more than a year of rehabilitation due to suffering severe injuries in a testing crash in Barcelona last September, Tiago Monteiro returned to competition in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCR) at Suzuka in October.
The annual vote for the FIA ‘Action of the Year’ award will feature Tiago Monteiro’s return to competition in November after it was nominated as one of the highlights of the 2018 WTCR season.
The nomination of Tiago's return was made by Eurosport Events on behalf of the WTCR, as a recognition of the effort and tireless work put in by the Portuguese driver for 14 months.
Fans around the world can vote for this year’s milestone as one of the many from the FIA accredited motorsport disciplines, such as Formula 1 and WTCR. “This moment will be forever etched in my memory,” Tiago acknowledged. “More than the tribute, the video broadcast as part of the FIA’s Action of the Year shows that the WTCR is a family championship and the possibility of my return, although seemingly difficult at times, was only achievable due to everyone’s effort! I am proud to be chosen to represent the WTCR and I hope I can count on everyone’s support to share the video to every corner of the world,” concluded Tiago Monteiro.
