Another strong performance by Kevin Krawietz in Gröden

Ortisei/Italy, 2016-07-11

Kevin Krawietz from Ahorn again turned in a very strong display at the Sparkasse ATP Challenger Val Garden South Tyrol, reaching the semi-finals of an ATP Challenger world ranking tennis tournament for the second time in a row. And he again won in the doubles with his partner Albano Olivetti. Because he reached the semi-finals in Eckental, Krawietz did not have to go through qualifying. He started in the main field as an outsider with a match against Ramanathan, defeating the 217th ranked Indian by 6:4, 6:4.

Many great attacks at the net

He then came up against the second seed Donskoy from Russia (number 118 in the world rankings). Krawietz won a very exciting game by 6:7, 7:5 and 7:6. He then went on to dominate the quarter-final against Kavcic from Slovenia with good serving and attacks at the net, advancing to the semi-final with a 6:0, 6:4 victory. He had reached that stage in Eckental just last week. “I’m in form, playing well and brimming with confidence,” said the professional from Coburg. Krawietz had two break balls in the sixth game against the Italian player Napolitano, but could not capitalize on them. He was broken in the set and lost narrowly by 5:7, 4:6.

Now a force to be reckoned with in doubles

Partnered by Albano Olivetti from France, Krawietz won the final in St. Ulrich against Frank Dancevic/Marko Tepavac (Canada/Serbia) by 6:4, 6:4. They made the crucial break in the second set to take a 5:4 lead. On their way to winning, they defeated the number one seeds Jebavy/Sancic (Czech Republic/Serbia) by 4:6, 7:6 and 12:10 in a thrilling game. This was the second doubles title in a row at a Challenger tournament for Krawietz/Olivetti. The pair had won in Eckental a week before. The winners each picked up 90 points in the world rankings.
