Sustainability

Sustainability is an essential part of securing the future of our company and is anchored overridingly in our corporate strategy. Sustainable work means for us being aware of our responsibility toward our company, the environment and society. Our four main fields of action are the base for continuous development to become a fully sustainable company.

Sustainability Report

In our Sustainability Report, we provide an insight into our developments and successes in the three dimensions of the environment, people, and sustainable business - and an outlook on the tasks and challenges that lie ahead.

Energy & Carbon Footprint

Brose has the target to become a net carbon-neutral company by 2039. An important intermediate step on this path is the net carbon-neutral operation of all Brose's own locations from 2025 (Scope 1 and 2). We are taking a variety of measures to achieve our ambitious goals.

Renewable Energies

By 2025, 100 percent of our electricity used will come from renewable sources. To achieve this goal, we are focusing on the procurement and own generation of green energy. Furthermore, we increase the energy efficiency in own locations by three percent every year. From 2025 onwards, the unavoidable share of CO2 emissions generated by the operation of our sites will be offset by investments in high-quality environmental projects.

Certified energy efficiency

To improve the energy efficiency of our production and infrastructure, we have introduced in select locations an energy management system that is certified according to the requirements of the DIN EN ISO 50001 standard. In 2021 the system was expanded to include the Taicang/China location, meaning that 18 locations were certified with the energy management system. A total of 55 percent of Brose employees worked at an ISO-50001-certified location in 2022.

Products & Innovation

For more than two decades, Brose has been recording and evaluating CO2 emissions of its products over the entire life cycle to continuously improve their ecological footprint. Our biggest lever to drive sustainability forward is product development.

Sustainable product design

In all steps of product development, we consider reused, recycled and bio-based materials as well as a circular design with reduced waste. By remanufacturing e-bike drives, we save 240 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

Product Carbon Footprint

We are working ambitiously to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our products by 2030. From 2039, we want to be able to offer our customers net carbon-neutral products.

Future Mobility

We’re shaping the transformation of mobility with components for e-bikes and e-scooters as well as variable interior concepts for flexible vehicle use. Power auxiliary systems increase the efficiency of cars and door modules made from lightweight organo sheets contribute to weight reduction.

Supply Chain & Due Dilligence

We see ourselves as responsible not only for the economic future of our company, but also for the society in which we operate, for the people we work with, and for the environment we need to live. Our human rights activities and our high sustainability requirements have influence on our complete supply chain.

Supplier requirements

With our strict Code of Conduct and Human Rights Declaration, we set clear expectations towards our suppliers. Alongside quality and price, compliance with sustainable principles is a requirement when awarding contracts with suppliers. By setting concrete targets and standards for reducing material and process emissions, we create transparency for our business partners. We support them in this by providing extensive trainings and knowledge transfer. With our sustainability award we honor outstanding performance.

Sustainable supply chain

As a founding member of the Responsible Supply Chain Initiative (RSCI) – an assessment program recognized in the automotive industry to proof sustainable supply chains – we contribute to compliance with environmental standards and human rights in the supply chain.

Due Diligence

In our declaration on compliance with human rights and environmental due diligence obligations we have committed to respecting human rights in our own business activities as well as in our global supply and value chains. Help for those affected can be found in our Incident Reporting System .

People & Society

Social aspects have always been of a great value for our family-owned company. We take our social responsibility for our employees and beyond very seriously. That’s why we are committed to local projects at our locations and to respecting human rights along the entire supply chain.

Cultural & Social Activities

Our company group is present on five continents. Together, we represent 93 nations with their diverse cultures and values. For us, this diversity is an opportunity to learn something new every day. Our social commitment is deliberately focused on the communities surrounding our locations. We support projects in the fields of health, education, culture, art, sports and humanitarian aid. Through our non-profit association Max-Brose-Hilfe e.V., we additionally support charitable organizations in the regions.
