Basketball Bundesliga: medi bayreuth loses at FC Bayern Munich

Munich, 01-30-2022

There was nothing to get in the Bavarian derby for medi bayreuth on the 19th matchday in the Basketball Bundesliga. Without the injured Andreas Seiferth, their sick captain Bastian Doreth and without the not yet fit Head Coach Raoul Korner, the Bayreuth team lost 60:83 (32:39) at FC Bayern Munich on Sunday evening.

Medi started the game well and took the lead with 5:4 (2.). Then, however, no basket would fall for four minutes. Finally, it was Philipp Jalalpoor who took heart and stopped the 14:0 run of Munich with a successful three-point shot. Especially Deshawn Thomas could never be controlled by the Bayreuth defense. All in all, the Munich team showed all its class and went into the first quarter break with a 24:11 lead.

The hosts continued to dominate the game in the following period. The team of interim Head Coach Slaven Rimac always defended with a tough focus and did not allow medi any easy throws. However, the offense of the Munich team also stalled a bit, so that the game seemed very disjointed at times. At the end of the quarter, the Upper Franconians were able to capitalize on this and reduce the deficit to seven points at the break (32:39).

After halftime, the start belonged to Bayreuth. The team once again came as close as 38:44 (24th) to the Munich team. However, there was a phase in medi's game in which more and more mistakes crept in. The Bavarians took advantage of this and pulled away point by point. With a 61:47 deficit, the team went into the final quarter.

A quick 9:0 run by the Munich team decided the game early on and medi was only able to do some cosmetic work. Nevertheless, the Bayreuth team continued to fight bravely, but in the end had to admit defeat with 60:83.

"We definitely stepped on the gas a lot more in the second quarter. However, Thomas' three threes broke our neck. Little by little, the quality of Munich prevailed and the victory is unfortunately also in this amount in order," explained Mauricio Parra (Interim Head Coach medi bayreuth) after the game.

In the last home game of this year's international competition, the Russians from Perm are guests on February 01. Jump in the Oberfrankenhalle is on Tuesday evening at 20:00 clock.
