Australian Open: Strong start in Melbourne
Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz made a statement right from the start at the Australian Open. In a focused and mature performance, the top German doubles team defeated French-Monegasque cousins Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 6-4, advancing confidently to the round of 32.
From the outset, Krawietz and Pütz made it clear why they are among the favorites in Melbourne. With powerful serves and bold play at the net, they kept their opponents at bay throughout. Crucially, the German duo did not drop a single service game in the entire match. At the same time, they managed to break serve in both sets – just the pinpricks they needed to secure a deserved victory after 91 minutes on Court 15.
Now they face either the Dutch pair Jesper de Jong/Sem Verbeek or the Brazilian duo Orlando Luz/Rafael Matos in the second round. Regardless of their opponents, Krawietz and Pütz are traveling with their heads held high, having reached the semifinals last year and once again being among the favorites at the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
