BBC Coburg ends away drought!
BBC Coburg ended its away drought on the 23rd match day, winning 85-76 at BG Hessing Leitershofen. In a very physical and emotional game, Coburg kept its cool and secured its first away win since December 21. Darius Dawson was once again the top scorer, recording his sixth double-double of the season with 23 points and twelve rebounds. The win also secured Coburg home-court advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Coach Patrick Seidel particularly praised his team's strong defense and mature play.
Ole Theiß joined Egger, Wenzl, Fasoyiro, and Dawson in the starting lineup. Coburg got off to a good start, but temporarily lost its way in the second quarter after a 9-0 run by the Kangaroos and trailed 33-38 at the break. After halftime, Höllerl finally hit his first three-pointer, Wenzl added two more and put the BBC back in the lead. The game remained heated and competitive, but a strong run by Coburg in the final quarter (12:3) sealed the deal. Leitershofen closed the gap to 70:77, but Coburg played out the game confidently and with strong nerves at the free throw line.
In the Franconian derby against the Würzburg Baskets this coming Sunday afternoon (March 15), Coburg wants to secure second place in the standings and take revenge for the narrow 93:97 defeat in the first leg. The game starts at 4 p.m. in the HUK-COBURG arena.
