Indian Wells: Krawietz/Pütz miss out on quarterfinals after tiebreak drama
Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz were eliminated in the round of 16 at the ATP Masters in Indian Wells. The Coburg native and his Frankfurt-based partner lost to the German-Dutch duo Frantzen/Haase 4-6, 6-7 (10-12). What made it particularly bitter was that Krawietz/Pütz squandered three set points in the second set before their opponents converted their third match point.
In the first set, the Germans, seeded fifth, failed to capitalize on two break points, while Frantzen/Haase seized their opportunity to take the set 6-4. The second set was much more evenly matched, but remained without a break – Frantzen/Haase finally prevailed in the tiebreak.
The next chance in doubles comes at the Miami Open starting on March 18. After several setbacks – such as their first-round exit at the Australian Open and defeats in Rotterdam – the 2024 world champions are hoping for better results there.
