BBC Coburg dominates opening game: Clear home win in the quarter-finals
With an outstanding first half, BBC Coburg celebrated a clear 92:68 victory in the first playoff quarter-final match against Baskets Juniors TSG Westerstede. Led by Nico Wenzl and a virtually outstanding defensive performance, the Vestestädter dominated the game early on and were already leading comfortably 57:32 at half-time. No fewer than five Coburg players scored in double figures, with Dylan Fasoyiro the top scorer on 17 points, followed by Dawson, Wenzl and Ćosić (15 each) and Höllerl (12).
Head coach Patrick Seidel was highly satisfied: “Defensively and offensively, the standard in the first half was very high. We implemented our game plan and were also able to give younger players some playing time later on.”
From the outset, the BBC set the pace, with Wenzl in particular shining with three early three-pointers. Defensively, too, Coburg gave Westerstede hardly any space, with Nico Höllerl making his mark with several blocks. A solid first quarter (19:13) was followed by a strong second quarter, in which the hosts decisively extended their lead with intense defence and good ball movement. Ćosić impressed with a strong all-round performance, whilst Fasoyiro racked up important points and rebounds.
After the break, Coburg rotated their squad; Westerstede narrowly won the third quarter without altering the course of the game. In the final quarter, the BBC confidently saw the game through to victory, celebrating the first quarter-final win in the club’s history.
Game 2 takes place on Sunday at 6 pm in Westerstede. A potential Game 3 would be played on Wednesday at 7.30 pm at the HUK-COBURG arena.
