Krawietz/Pütz Miss Out on Wimbledon Final

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz failed to reach the Wimbledon final. The top German doubles team lost in the semifinals to Marcelo Arévalo (El Salvador) and Mate Pavić (Croatia) 6–7 (8–10), 2–6, and will thus have to wait a little longer for their first Grand Slam title as a team.

On the second-largest court at the venue, both teams were evenly matched in the first set. Krawietz and Pütz even earned three set points in the tiebreak, but were unable to convert them and lost the set narrowly, 8–10.

At the start of the second set, the match was interrupted for several minutes amid temperatures exceeding 30 degrees after a spectator in the stands required medical attention. After the interruption, Arévalo and Pavić found their rhythm again and capitalized on their opportunities. Two service breaks by the Germans ultimately decided the match.

This brings an end to Krawietz’s (34) and Pütz’s (38) hopes of their first Grand Slam title together. The duo had reached the US Open final in 2024 and won the ATP Finals in Turin. As early as 2023, the pair had fallen in the semifinals at Wimbledon. For now, Krawietz remains with his two Grand Slam titles, which he won at the French Open in 2019 and 2020.
