US Open: Krawietz/Pütz Advance to the Second Round

A successful start for Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz at the U.S. Open: The sixth-seeded German doubles team prevailed in a grueling 132-minute match, defeating Portugal’s Jaime Faria and Australia’s Adam Walton 7–6 (8–6), 6–7 (3–7), 6–4.

Despite falling behind early with a break, Krawietz, a native of Coburg, and his partner from Frankfurt kept their cool. After tying the score at 2–2, they won a hard-fought first set in a tiebreak. In the second set, Faria/Walton fought back, but Krawietz/Pütz capitalized on an early break in the decisive third set to secure the victory.

With this victory, the Germans advance to the second round. Next up is the Dutch-American duo of Jean-Julien Rojer and Theodore Winegar. Another win would send the German Davis Cup doubles team into the round of 16.
