2.BBL: Disastrous Coburg Performance Against Speyer
On the 6th matchday of the ProB South, BBC Coburg suffered their third defeat of the season against the Ahorn Camp Baskets from Speyer with a score of 57:84. Both offensively and defensively, the team from Vestestadt never really got into the game and were clearly shown their limits by Speyer over the entire 40 minutes. The best scorer for BBC was Zach Hinton with eleven points.
From the first second of the game, the guests from the cathedral city left no doubt about their goal: to secure their third consecutive victory. It took over two minutes for Marlon Stephan to score the first points for Coburg with a three-pointer, but by then the score was already 3:11 in favor of the Baskets from Speyer. Throughout the first half, the guests consistently exploited the mistakes and lackluster performance of BBC. They repeatedly earned second-chance opportunities and punished Coburg’s turnovers with easy fast-break points. By halftime, Head Coach Patrick Seidel’s team was already trailing by 25 points. The third quarter showed the same picture. Although Coburg managed to find some offensive rhythm, shockingly poor shooting percentages from the three-point and free-throw lines made a comeback impossible. Additionally, Speyer, particularly through their Spanish point guard Carlos Hidalgo Guijo, always had the right answer. This gave the young BBC players a chance to gain some ProB experience in the final quarter. Among others, youngster Marlon Lippe scored his first professional points shortly before the end.
On November 9, 2024, Coburg will host the VR Bank Würzburg Baskets Academy at 7:00 PM.
