Basketball: BBC Bayreuth lose the game in the final quarter

Düsseldorf, 10-14-2023

Due to a drop in performance in the last ten minutes, BBC Bayreuth lost 89:96 to ART Giants Düsseldorf in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Pro A on Saturday evening.

The BBC started the game with Moritz Plescher, Lenny Liedtke, Marios Giotis, Selim Fofana and Aaron Carver. After a three-pointer by Moritz Plescher, Bayreuth took a quick five-point lead. Düsseldorf missed some easy points, but still came back to 12:14. The Bayreuth game went a lot through big man Aaron Carver. The BBC remained continuously in the lead. The Bayreuth team went into the first quarter break with an eight-point lead.

With a 9:0 series, the hosts took the lead for the first time in the game at 25:24 at the beginning of the second period, 27:27 shortly afterwards after a good 13 minutes. Aaron Carver with two free-throw shots and Selim Fofana put the Bayreuth team back in front 33:27. After a powerful dunk by Selim Fofana, it was 40:33 for the BBC after just under 16 minutes. Then Düsseldorf came back and reduced the score to 39:40. At half-time, the BBC was finally just 45:43 in front. The weak Bayreuth three-point quota of only 17 percent in the first 20 minutes was striking.

After a three-pointer by Selim Fofana, it was quickly 53:45 for Bayreuth in the third quarter, Moritz Plescher made it 56:47 with a three-pointer shortly afterwards. Selim Fofana again gave the BBC a double-digit lead for the first time with 58:47. Shortly before the quarter break, however, the hosts came back to 69:73, but Marios Giotis hit a jump shot - 75:69 for Bayreuth after 30 minutes.

Düsseldorf came back to 73:77 at the beginning of the final quarter, then Finn Fleute sank a three-pointer - Bayreuth was only one point ahead. Another three-pointer by Finn Fleute finally put the hosts in front 79:77 with just over six minutes to go. The BBC now missed easy points, and after two free-throw points by Alex Richardson, Düsseldorf were suddenly ahead 90:81. Emil Marshall increased the lead to 92:81 and the game was completely turned around. Bayreuth had a disastrous phase on the offensive end. Esa Ahmad missed two free throws at 81:94. The Bayreuth team then came back to 89:96, but the game was lost in the final quarter due to many mistakes.

BBC Bayreuth's next game will be against VfL SparkassenStars Bochum on Saturday, 21 October at 7 pm in the Oberfrankenhalle Bayreuth.
